'The Girl Effect' is a site that I have recently discovered that has really hit home for me, and I hope it does the same for you. Please take the time to watch this short clip.

This recent article from the LA Times is definitely worth the read. In 2005 I researched FGM in Sub-Saharan Africa for a project, and I cannot express how wonderful it is to hear of the progress that the UN has made with this issue.

Wow - a new year, and a year for fresh starts! Finally back on board after moving the family to Echuca, country Victoria. Plenty of exciting times to come for us and for The Fair Trade Store! Soooooo sorry for the lengthy holiday from the blogging world - I promise to make up for it!

As a big fan of photography and photographic books, I thought I would start the year with some beautiful pics by James Mollison. These photographs were published in a book titled 'Where Children Sleep', offering us an insight into the global child and their bedroom, from a range of backgrounds and cultures. No matter how simple or elaborate, the childhood bedroom is always remembered. A place of child dreaming, solace and sometimes treasured collections, these pictures compell you to consider your own values and fortune.

I have recently discovered an amazing photographer,

James Mollison, whose pictures are very real, and thought-provoking. Take his 'Cocoa Pickers' series.......Beautiful photos of hard working men from the village Zongokro in Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), the world's largest cacao producing country. These men earn less than $1 a day farming cocoa beans.

All the more reason to get on the Fair Trade Chocolate wagon.
